Owner Surrender
Surrender Form
Is Surrendering the Right Choice?
We understand that surrendering a pet is not an easy decision. As hard as it is for owners, its even more harder for the cat. Cats are creatures of habit. They come to know their home, owners, and routine and enhoy the comfortsof home. Even when a home may not be perfect. When a cat is used to living in a home they know and are comfortable in, moving to a rescue with other pets and people they don’t know will be a big adjustment.
The reasons for surrendering are abundant, and the current economic crisis we are facing, and general unrest are contributing factors. Financial difficulties are becoming the norm as people struggle to make ends meet. Requests for taking surrenders are close to outpacing stray requests. This is adding fuel to a crisis that was already on fire.
The best outcome is if we can help a cat and its current family stay together. We understand that this cannot always be done. Below we’ve listed out the most common reasons for surrender. Before making a final decision, please read through these. Our hope is that we can find a solution that works for everyone.
Reasons for Surrendering
Litter Box Issues
A cat who is urinating outside of the box, on clothes and other places inside the house can be very frustrating. The root cause could be medical, but is often a behavioral communication issue.
Moving – pet deposits, allowances, ESA’s
Renters often struggle to find affordable housing that will allow them to keep the animals they currently have. The next struggle is to pay the fees associated.
Illness or Death of a family member
What do you do when a friend or family member gets ill, or goes into hospice? What if a family member passes away? Few people are prepared for these events.
Not Getting Along with Other Pets
